NORTH YORK COMMUNITY GROUPS CALL TO ACTION TO ADDRESS GUN VIOLENCE
(Toronto, ON, VL Press 9.19.2024) Residents in North York met Thursday morning to address the growing conference over gun violence across the GTA. The emergency press conference was called after recent shootings that has residents, families and businesses concerned for the safety of their community.
The press conference was organized by residents with The Reset Community, in conjunction with the Kay Morris Foundation and Glory Empire.
In a call for action, the community groups created Project 13. It includes 13 actionable steps for stakeholders, policy makers, government officials, community and collaborative partners.

The community groups calls for action include “government officials, stakeholders, community leaders, residents, anyone in any position to really come forward and collaborate with all communities to see that we’re making a difference for the better.” says K. Ann Thomas with The Reset Community.
Community member Dwight Robinson wants a meeting with politicians, police and other residents to solve the issue of gun violence. He said he doesn’t want any other youth to lose their life.
“I’m begging,” Robinson said. “(If) nobody don’t say anything, the youth going to die.”
The residents and organizing groups thank the community, the media and attendees including elected official NDP Tom Rakecovic for his address at the conference. In addition, MP Judgy Sgro for having a representative from her office attend on her behalf and the Toronto Police Services for their presence to hear the community voices and concerns and being open to meet with the community groups.
